One of the most important skills you need in science is the ability to write-up experiments.
Every write-up must have the following sections;
1. HEADING - Always start writing about an experiment on a new page with a title and the date at the top.
2. AIM - Start by writing a question that you want to answer by doing your experiment. You should also predict what you think your results will show. For a really good write-up you should also say why you think the answer will be what you predict.
3. SAFETY - List any precautions you need to take (everything you need to do to stay safe when doing the experiment).
4. EQUIPMENT - List the apparatus you will need to carry out the experiment and give the reasons why you have chosen those things.
5. DIAGRAM - Show how the equipment needs to be arranged to do the experiment.
6. METHOD - Give a step-by-step account of exactly what you will do (so somebody else could repeat your experiment).
7. RESULTS - Write down your observations. Numerical results should be in a table (use a ruler and include headings and units).
8. ANALYSIS - What do your results show? Is this what you expected? Try to say how sure you are about your results.
9. CONCLUSION - Summarise what you found out. Try to suggest further experiments to find out more about the thing you investigated.
